SEMC gives back!
Unlike previous years, this year the SEMC Group chose to give the budget earmarked for usual year-end gifts to business associates, to those that need it a little harder. This year, SEMC has given special attention to various orphanages because the children are the future of our country. The orphanages Huize Betheljada, Lotjeshuis, Kinderhuis Elim, Huize Tyl Tyl en Kinderhuis Sanatan Dharm have all received an amount of SRD3500. We hope to have contributed significantly to a merry Christmas for the children in the orphanages.
Quota Owru Yari Earplugs Campaign
On December 31 during the annual Pagara Estafette, Service Club Quota will hand out earplugs to the public who will be present in the inner city of Paramaribo. They will do this to increase the awareness of negative effects of prolonged and frequent noise. The public will also be informed how to use the earplugs.
Noise above 80dB for an 8 hour period or longer lasting can lead to hearing damage or complete hearing loss.
Indication of loudness:
- loud car stereos: 140dB
- MP3 player (with earphones): 90-110dB
- disco: 100-120dB
- vuuwerk: 140dB
SEMC is proud to sponsor the last two years of awareness done by Quota. This also brings the SEMC Health, Safety, Environment and Quality culture to the community.
Drilling & Blasting
For over 5 months now SEMC has been conducting drilling and blasting activities in Caramacca, Suralco's bauxite mine. Drilling is done with the fully reconditioned Klemm drills and qualified operators. All blasting is coordinated with a certified blastmaster and we can proudly say that all blasting has been done without any incidents.
With drilling and blasting SEMC has totally taken over all mining activities in the Caramacca mine, we develop the mineface beforehand, drill and blast the ore lose, load and drive the ore to the stockpiles and lastly, deliver the ore to the refinery. All activities are done according to Suralco standards and the ore is delivered to accepted qualities of Suralco.
Next to drilling and blasting, we've also done some exploration drilling and we are happy to say that together with Suralco we have expanded the ore reserves and have extended the life of mine.
